New Infusion Center to Open in January at Decatur County Hospital
December 14, 2023
At Decatur County Hospital we believe in striving to exceed the expectations of our patients, their families, and our community. Our mission is to deliver exceptional care close to home, with a vision to enhance lives and improve health. We are dedicated to providing you with the best care and we continue to expand our services to continue to exceed those expectations. We currently offer a number of services and clinics, including infusion therapy.
Infusion therapy, or intravenous therapy, is one way to administer medication directly into the bloodstream, and used to treat specialized conditions that may not be effectively treated with oral medication. Infusion therapy usually consists of several treatments, and this process can often take numerous hours over a series of appointments to administer. During the time that you receive your treatments, we want you to be as comfortable as possible.
To meet that expectation, we are happy to announce that our brand new infusion treatment center will open in January 2024. The completion of this new space will double our existing capacity to allow us to serve up to ten (10) patients simultaneously. Each infusion patient will find comfort in brand new chairs that include heat and massage, individual lighting controls, spacious storage for personal belongings, internet access, and televisions to choose their own entertainment (including the ability to connect headphones to avoid disturbing others), all to ensure comfort while going through treatment.
With its open floor plan, elevated ceiling, provisions for natural light, and other design touches, the new infusion center will provide a far more comfortable experience for those going through treatment. In addition, the centrally located nurse’s station will allow our specially trained infusion nursing staff to maintain continuous observation of patients to ensure their comfort and that infusion treatments are consistent with the prescribed treatment plan.
The new infusion area has been designed to provide patients the option of maintaining their privacy during treatment or to be able to interact with other patients to share stories and offer support.
Decatur County Hospital partners with Mission Cancer + Blood to serve patients in our community suffering from cancer or blood disorders. Our cancer care physician, Dr. Zeeshan Jawa, MD, is a board-certified Hematologist/Oncologist and visits the DCH Outpatient Clinic four (4) days each month to provide expert personalized care for those living with a cancer diagnosis. Cancer is unique for each patient and requires close monitoring and compassionate care. Dr. Jawa’s patients appreciate his personalized care, compassion, and his accessibility to the Decatur County area. The appreciation for our cancer treatment process also extends beyond his personalized care to our entire cancer care team. Dr. Jawa partners with our on-site chemotherapy and infusion teams to provide high-quality cancer care while saving you the stress of traveling far from home for treatment.
Even though a lot of people think that infusion treatments mainly involves chemotherapy, our infusion center is available to help treat a wide range of conditions. In short, infusion therapy is a way of delivering medication that can’t be taken orally, due to the medication losing its effectiveness when digested, or that needs to be dispensed at a controlled pace. Infusion therapy can be used to deliver nutrition, as well as many types of medications, including chemotherapy, antibiotics, antivirals, new treatments for neurological conditions, and immunotherapy medications to name a few.
Our infusion team includes your healthcare provider, registered nurses, a pharmacist, a pharmacy tech, and laboratory staff. Our team has advanced education to provide the most qualified and experienced care to you and your family. When you receive infusion therapy at Decatur County Hospital, our specially trained registered nurses will administer your treatment in a relaxed and comfortable setting, giving you the expert help you need with the care you deserve.
